Chapter 34

Dungeon Crawling

Searching the scorched and shattered corpses was enlightening.

The claw-monsters were peculiar beasts, and I found myself wondering if they were a kind of undead. Their bodies were mostly just bones and tendons, with a thick gray-brown hide stretched over it.

Even the hide couldn’t be salvaged, as the bodies were so dry and dehydrated, trying to separate the skin from the body made it crack and flake to pieces.

Not that there wasn’t anything to be gained.

Some of the bones would be functional crafting materials for armor or weapons—supposing we could find someone who had the skill to work with bones. But what was much more interesting was contained in the sandy dust in the creature’s skulls. Each skull held between five and seven of them, easily located by just sifting a hand through the sandy skull contents.
